Our 2025 Social Impact: The Numbers Behind the Mission

Running a business in Yorkshire is not for the faint-hearted. Whether you are in the early stages of turning an idea into something real, or you are an established business owner navigating a shifting market, the journey rarely follows a straight line. What makes the difference, more often than not, is having the right support around you at the right time.

That is exactly what we set out to provide in 2025, and the results speak for themselves.

What We Achieved Together in 2025

This year, we supported 272 pre-start entrepreneurs through the early, often overwhelming, stages of business development. We worked with 147 established businesses to help them grow, sharpen their strategy, and strengthen their foundations. We supported the creation of 75 new businesses, helped generate 132 jobs across the region, and maintained a 96% workspace occupancy rate.

Those are not just statistics. Behind every one of those numbers is a person who made a decision to back themselves and needed someone in their corner to help them do it properly.

As a not-for-profit enterprise agency, our mission has always been focused on supporting sustainable business growth across Yorkshire. Not quick wins. Not vanity metrics. Real, grounded, lasting growth that means something to the people building these businesses and the communities around them.

Why Practical Guidance Matters More Than Theory

One of the most consistent things we hear from entrepreneurs, whether they are just starting out or running an operation that has been trading for years, is that generic advice only takes you so far. What people actually need is guidance rooted in the realities of running a business today.

That is the philosophy built into everything we do. Our business advisors bring over 100 years of combined experience working with businesses across the UK. That depth of knowledge means we can meet entrepreneurs where they are, not where a textbook says they should be.

We start by helping clients get clear on their "why," the purpose driving the business beyond simply making money. From there, we work through the fundamentals: who the target customer actually is, what problem the business genuinely solves, and how the business model creates and delivers value in a sustainable way.

This kind of grounding is especially important right now. Consumer expectations are shifting faster than ever, funding landscapes are increasingly complex, and the pressure to have a strong digital presence sits alongside every other challenge a business owner is already managing.

The Role of Market Research in Getting It Right

One of the areas where we put particular emphasis is market research. It sounds straightforward, but it is one of the most skipped steps in early-stage business development, and it is often the most consequential.

We teach established methods for collecting and analysing customer information, and we actively encourage entrepreneurs to engage directly with potential customers before they finalise their business plans. This is not just good practice; it is often the step that completely reshapes the direction of a business.

When you sit down and actually speak to the people you intend to serve, you frequently discover that your assumptions were off. Sometimes slightly, sometimes significantly. That insight, gathered before you have committed time and money to a particular approach, is genuinely valuable. It is the kind of thing that protects entrepreneurs from building something polished and well-planned that nobody actually wants.

Networking and Building the Right Connections

Business growth rarely happens in isolation. Part of what we provide, beyond one-to-one advisory support, is access to a broader network of business owners, potential collaborators, and peer support.

Scarborough and the wider Yorkshire region have a strong entrepreneurial community, and connecting people within that community is something we take seriously. Whether it is introducing two business owners who can genuinely help each other, or simply creating the space for people to share challenges and solutions with others who understand them, those connections carry real weight.

Isolation is one of the less-talked-about challenges of entrepreneurship. Having a reliable network around you, people who have faced similar hurdles and can offer honest perspective, changes how you approach problems and how quickly you move through them.

Business Planning That Actually Works for You

There is a common misconception that a business plan is primarily a document written to impress a bank or an investor. For some businesses, at certain stages, that is part of it. But the most useful business plan is one that serves the entrepreneur first.

We help clients build plans that emphasise market understanding, financial literacy, and clear strategic direction. Plans that you can actually use to make decisions, track progress, and adapt when circumstances change. Plans that reflect what you know about your customers, your costs, your competitors, and your goals.

Getting this right takes time and honest thinking. But when it is done well, it becomes the backbone of how a business operates and grows, not just a document that lives in a folder.

The Year Ahead

2025 was a year we are genuinely proud of. Every entrepreneur supported, every business launched, every job created represents real effort from real people who committed to building something meaningful.

If you are at the start of your business journey, thinking about whether now is the right time to take the leap, or if you are already trading and looking for support to grow more strategically, we want to hear from you.
