Grind & Tonic — a shared space for food, creativity & community

Grind & Tonic: Scarborough’s New Space for Creatives

Grind & Tonic is Yorkshire in Business’ newest venue in the heart of Scarborough — created to give independent hospitality and creative businesses a place to grow, test ideas, and connect with people.

If you know Explore Indie and the original Grind Coffee Shop on St Nicholas Street, you’ll recognise the spirit behind it. For the past four years that space has helped around 50 local makers a year to showcase and sell their work. Grind & Tonic is the next step: a bigger, more flexible home for self-employed people, pop-ups and emerging talent across the coast.

What makes it different?

Grind & Tonic runs on a shared-space model. Multiple small businesses operate independently under one roof, bringing something fresh to the venue each week — while benefiting from a supportive, ready-made setting.

It means the space stays lively and evolving, and local entrepreneurs get a real platform to build confidence, customers and community.

What’s on offer

Daytime coffee shop

A relaxed café open Wednesday–Saturday, 10am–4pm, serving great coffee plus fresh ciabattas, homemade soups and antipasti boards. A friendly spot for meetings, catch-ups or just a quiet pause in your day. This offering links with our Community Grants programme giving real work and life experience to young people in hospitality.

Friday evenings: We provide opportunities for young musicians to perform and earn on a commission basis to a live audience in a real setting.

Saturday evenings: The Green Room Dining

On Saturday nights, the venue becomes an intimate pop-up restaurant led by Chef Rob Porter, showcasing seasonal dishes and local produce in a special small-plates dining experience.

Who it’s for

We’re inviting pop-up chefs, cocktail makers, and emerging musicians/performers who want to collaborate, try something new, or build a following. If you’ve got an idea and need a supportive place to bring it to life, we’d love to hear from you.

Yorkshire in Business has supported Scarborough’s entrepreneurs for 40 years, and Grind & Tonic is part of that same mission: helping people start, grow and thrive — especially in sectors where space and opportunity can be hard to find.
