A School-Hater Who Went to University Anyway

Dan will be the first to admit that school was not his favourite place. He hated it. So the fact that he went on to college and then university to study network computing surprised quite a few people, himself included perhaps.

He genuinely enjoyed the subject. Computing felt like a viable path forward. But four years of study brought an honest realisation: sitting behind a screen all day was not the life he wanted. He needed something more physical, more active, more tangible.

That instinct led him to Royal Mail.

Eighteen Years of Keeping Fit for a Living

Dan joined Royal Mail and took to it immediately. His words about that early period stick with us: he felt like he was being paid good money to keep fit. There is something refreshing about that attitude, finding satisfaction in physical work, being out in the world rather than tethered to a desk.
