Helping Hands
Helping Hands
Louise Simpson
I have worked for the local authority in a care setting for 25 years supporting vulnerable children and adults.
My Mum became ill with dementia 11 years ago and sadly has passed away. I looked after my mum with my sisters, but we did need some respite. Our family found it extremely difficult to find understanding, caring and compassionate people to help support my Mum. We handpicked our own ladies and named them ‘Grannies Angels ‘they were fabulous.
This made me think other families must be going through the same finding help and support and I came up with the idea to go solo and provide this support myself. The only drawback was ‘where do I start?! I have no idea about being self-employed or running a business!
That’s where Yorkshire in Business helped me. I had two wonderful ladies to support me, Suzanne and Sarah. They started the process of getting me a DBS and invited me on a bookkeeping course where I met lots of other ‘micro-providers’. They set me up on a WhatsApp group sharing clients who needed support and giving a community of different kinds of micro providers who could help clients with cleaning - gardening - odd jobs- also admin work. In fact, it was a platform for a one stop shop!
Yorkshire in business have helped with set out my quality standards - have service agreements and a complaints procedure and help me work to a high-quality level of care, ensuring anyone I look after will get the best care possible. I now have the backing of being a ‘freedom provider of care’ it’s like to seal of approval - clients know they will get fair pricing and quality care.
Without Yorkshire in Business, I may not have taken this step - I am so glad I have.
I have a full schedule with the most wonderful clients age range from 10 to 93!
I love my job!
